He was cut off from his resources and forced to rely on his wits to survive. He learned to manipulate situations and even turned some of his captors against each other. This experience shaped him deeply.When Bruce retired, he initially wanted Thomas to become Batman. However, Thomas refused and insisted that Martin should take up the mantle. Though hesitant, Bruce eventually made Martin the new Batman.
